Step 2: Scroll down and click on the option “Start an Online Claim”

Step 3: Enter your credentials or if you are a new user, then register with the site.

Step 4: The site will require you to enter the tracking number of the mail item, shipping date, address, and other claim details. So, enter all these details.

Step 5: Next, you need to mention the reason for filing a claim and submit the proofs. The proofs or documents can be uploaded as a pdf. or jpg. Receipt of the purchase can be a proof of value.

Step 6: Enter the details about the insurance fees and evidence of insurance such as mailing receipt

Step 7: Finally submit the USPS claim form

If you intend to file a lost package claim offline then follow the below procedures:

Step 1: Contact customer support at 1-800-332-0317, extension 1,

Step 2: Request USPS to send you the USPS damage claim form (domestic) through the mail.

Step 3: As you receive the claim form through the mail, fill it completely and mail it to the address mentioned on the form.

Step 4: Make sure to send the supporting documents, proof of value and evidence of insurance.

Step 1: Visit the Official page of USPS and navigate to https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm

Step 2: Navigate to the tab “International Shipments” and select the option called “Create an Inquiry.” Later, you will be directed to the login page of USPS account

Step 3: Enter the credentials if you are an existing customer. In case of a new customer, register with USPS.

Step 4: Fill out all the required fields and submit the Inquiry.

Offline Procedure to File International Claim:

Step 1: Call the International Research group at 800-222-1811

Step 2: Request for the inquiry and if it states that the package is lost, then USPS will send you a claim packet. The claim packet will contain all the required information to process the claim. You can also visit the post office and request for the PS Form 2855

Step 3: Submit the content of the package, its container, the packaging, etc. to the Post Office.

Please Note: Ensure that you file the USPS missing package claim within the 60 days from the date of mailing, and for Global Express Guaranteed® (GXG) shipments claim within 30 days.

When to File USPS Claim?

Domestic Claim Time:

  1. Registered Mail and Registered COD with postal insurance packages: 15 to 60 Days.
  2. The Priority Mail Express items: 7 to 60 Days.
  3. Insured mail or Priority Mail: 15 to 60 Days.
  4. COD or Cash on delivery: 15 to 60 Days.
  5. In case of APO/FPO/DPO, the time for Priority Mail Express: 21 to 180 days.
  6. First-Class, Space Available, or Parcel Airlift: 45 days to 1 year.
  7. Surface Mail: 75 days to 1 year

International Claim Time:

  1. Registered Mail items: 7 days to 6 months
  2. Priority Mail International: 7 days to 6 months
  3. Priority Mail Express International items: 3 to 90 days
  4. Global Express Guaranteed: 3 to 30 days
  5. Priority Mail International items with Money Back Guarantee: 3 to 30 days

Post Office Claim Form:

The claim can be made offline, for this, you need to submit the claim form. Call 1-800-332-0317, extension 1, to have a Domestic Claim Form.

USPS Claim Number:

When you start your claim process, you will be provided with a claim number. You can make use of this claim number to receive the latest update on the claim status.
